Featured Venue: Rock and Roll Hotel

Rock and Roll Hotel
1353 H Street NE
Washington, DC 20002
http://www.rockandrollhoteldc.com/

You can check out any time you like, but you won’t want to leave!

Let’s just get this straight right from the beginning. Yes, you can rent a room at the Rock and Roll Hotel. No, it is not really a hotel. Still confused? We’ll explain.

While you can’t get a bed for the night, Rock and Roll Hotel does offer 2 themed party suites & 3 recording suites for rent. You can get a taste of what’s available by browsing the list of room names, which range from “The Led Zeppelin Suite” to “The My Bloody Valentine Suite.”

The goal here is to capture the feeling of glamour and luxury celebrated in famous hotels like The Savoy in London or The Chelsea in New York City. The vibe is just right for the burgeoning H Street Corridor surrounding the venue. This neighborhood has gone through major renovations in recent years, and is quickly being recognized as the premiere arts and entertainment district in DC.

In addition to the rental suites, Rock and Roll Hotel operates as a full service rock club, hosting a top-notch selection of rising rock acts. Upcoming concert highlights include psychedlic legends The Silver Apples on September 1st, Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore on September 29th, and two nights with indie darlings Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in November, among countless others. All shows in the Main Hall are open to ALL AGES!

DC residents that use the Metro to get around will find transportation to Rock and Roll Hotel is now easier than ever! If you are heading down on a Friday or Saturday night, just call up Atlas Courtsey Shuttle for FREE service from Union Station to H Street. The shuttle is available from 10:00PM to 2:30AM each week. Please call (202) 906-0697 for pick up!

New Featured Venue: VINOS

Vinos
923 W. 7th
Little Rock, AR
Find Tickets!
http://www.vinosbrewpub.com/

For lovers of the loud, the intense, and the emotional there is Vinos. It doesn’t take more than a quick glance at the upcoming tour dates to get a feel for the type of music that is often showcased here. Just next week we have such delightfully gruesome bands as: “Suicide Silence,” “Bloodlined Calligraphy,” and “Through the Eyes of the Dead.” Yikes!

And what better way to watch “As Blood Runs Black” storm the stage than while chowing down on a piping hot calzone?! Ok yeah, that doesn’t sound appetizing at all. Nonetheless, Vino’s does have some great eats, and it pays to get down there early. Stop in before the show for one of their specialty pizzas or enjoy their fine selection of lagers and ales. If you get there before 6:00pm on a Saturday, house brews are only a $1.75 each! Check out their Web site for other nightly specials.

Speaking of the site, they have a fun little feature on there that allows you to send out Vinos e-postcards to friends. Why not send a note to let everyone know tickets are still available for “As Cities Burn” on www.ticketalternative.com/?

Although we don’t have all the details yet, Vino’s does have a very special show planned for September. Little Rock’s original brewpub will be celebrating it’s 17th Anniversary with a day full of surprises!

Upcoming shows:

  • 08/10/2007 Have Heart
  • 8/15/2007 As Cities Burn
  • 8/18/2007 An Angle w/ e for explosion
  • 8/20/2007 Through The Eyes Of The Dead
  • 8/23/2007 Job For A Cowboy
  • 9/13/2007 Suicide Silence
  • 9/21/2007 Bloodlined Calligraphy

Featured Venue: Whirlyball

Whirlyball
608 Holcomb Bridge Rd.
Roswell, GA 30075

View Schedule and Find Tickets

Ok Atlanta, it’s time to venture outside the perimeter. Trust us, it’s worth it.

Hidden in the depths below a strip mall in Roswell, Georgia lies one of the most unique music venues in the Southeast: WhirlyBall!

Whirlyball itself is a team sport that combines elements of lacrosse, basketball, and jai alai played while driving around in a bumper car like machine. The official WhirlyBall site says it’s “the world’s only totally mechanized team sport.” We prefer to recognize it as “the only sport that advocates drinking and driving”…on the court anyways.

That’s right, in addition to the game area, WhirlyBall offers a full bar for your partying needs. That explains why WhirlyBall is also a popular space to rent out for “grown-up parties” and other private events.

But most importantly, WhirlyBall has recently added a stage area to the space! With a little help from the fine folks of Chunklet Magazine, WhirlyBall has brought in a great assortment of national artists including Mogwai, The Melvins, Deerhunter and more. Even the lads of Muse came by to test their skills on the Whirlybugs!

The Whirlyball experience is so unique because you get to play this amazing game, see amazing bands, and more often than not, play the game WITH those amazing artists! It’s rare for a band to play a show at WhirlyBall without being drawn to the court either before or after their set.

The concert space at WhirlyBall is pretty tight and tickets are limited—so if you want to see a show there, make sure to grab your tickets in advance from Ticket Alternative! Upcoming shows at WhirlyBall: Ted Leo & The Pharmacists on August 8th.

Featured Venue: Juanitas

Little Rock, AR 72202

Juanita's is another one of those music venues that offers more than just great entertainment.
Locally renowned for its award winning Mexican food and margaritas, Juanita's offers friendly, exciting atmosphere both in the dining area and back in the bar.

Conveniently located in the heart of The River Market District, Juanita's is immersed in the best of Little Rock's nightlife. Locals rave about "plenty of parking" in this downtown location.
Superb acoustics in the back bar guarantees top notch shows from both local and national acts. While artists tend to be in the rock, Southern, or alternative genres, an array of talent has packed the back room. Recent highlights include Ingram Hill, Red Jumpsuit Appartus, and Bob Schneider.

Indie rock fans, there's music here for you, too! Mark March 12th on your calendar for the arrival of buzzworthy band Cold War Kids.

Fans of "American Idol" stormed Ticket Alternative's Web site and phone lines to secure tickets to the most recent concert announcement: Chris Daughtry will be headlining an intimate show on April 2nd! TaLive readers caught the announcement early, and if you waited until now you are too late. The show sold out in a record 15 minutes!

Don't miss out on any of the other noteworthy acts dropping by Little Rock. Check out Juanit'as official site for a complete concert calendar.

Featured Venue: The EARL

The EARL
488 Flat Shoals RD.
Atlanta, GA 303016
www.badearl.com
View Schedule and Find Tickets

At the epicenter of Atlanta’s bourgeoning East Village music scene stands one of the newer venues to open its doors – The EARL. Spelled out, the East Atlanta Restaurant and Lounge provides a no-nonsense, unpretentious, and eclectic setting to have a drink, grab one of the best burgers in town, and enjoy what is quite possibly the strongest line up of local, indie, and international artists Atlanta has to offer.

Located on Flat Shoals Road, central to Atlanta’s newest up-and-coming neighborhood, The East Village, parking is a no-brainer with plenty of free street parking and enough pay lots to accommodate overflow from the largest of national shows.

Walk through the front door of the EARL and be greeted with a comfortable and familiar pub setting. Copious amounts of tables and booths line the pawn-shop-décor style room and provide a perfect setting for the first or last stop out on a Friday night. The restaurant/lounge element of the EARL alone is worth the drive but understand that it’s not what drives the local masses to this place of indie-rock-worship.

Only feet away, past the bar and down the hallway, enter the “back room”. It’s own scene within a scene, the stage at the EARL is home to some of the cities brightest breakout acts like The Hiss, Snowden, All The Saints, and The Close. Don’t miss Junior Boys on April 15th at The EARL.
