Ok Atlanta, it’s time to venture outside the perimeter. Trust us, it’s worth it.
Hidden in the depths below a strip mall in Roswell, Georgia lies one of the most unique music venues in the Southeast: WhirlyBall!
Whirlyball itself is a team sport that combines elements of lacrosse, basketball, and jai alai played while driving around in a bumper car like machine. The official WhirlyBall site says it’s “the world’s only totally mechanized team sport.” We prefer to recognize it as “the only sport that advocates drinking and driving”…on the court anyways.
That’s right, in addition to the game area, WhirlyBall offers a full bar for your partying needs. That explains why WhirlyBall is also a popular space to rent out for “grown-up parties” and other private events.
But most importantly, WhirlyBall has recently added a stage area to the space! With a little help from the fine folks of Chunklet Magazine, WhirlyBall has brought in a great assortment of national artists including Mogwai, The Melvins, Deerhunter and more. Even the lads of Muse came by to test their skills on the Whirlybugs!
The Whirlyball experience is so unique because you get to play this amazing game, see amazing bands, and more often than not, play the game WITH those amazing artists! It’s rare for a band to play a show at WhirlyBall without being drawn to the court either before or after their set.
The concert space at WhirlyBall is pretty tight and tickets are limited—so if you want to see a show there, make sure to grab your tickets in advance from Ticket Alternative! Upcoming shows at WhirlyBall: Ted Leo & The Pharmacists on August 8th. Get tickets!
