Gunther brings Champagne, Glamour, Sex to Atlanta

Günther & The Sunshine Girls
Sat. December 15, 2007
The Loft
Atlanta, GA

When news of Günther's arrival in Atlanta hit our office today, several female co-works fainted, another squealed, and the men desperately drew on moustaches. America is not ready for Sweden's Günther and the Sunshine Girls. Like Zoolander fronting Ace of Base, Günther will seduce you. Please listen to the delightfully creepy "Ding ding dong song" on his Myspace page and then, as we all did, go immediately to Ticket Alternative to purchase tickets. VIP tickets get you a meet and greet with the man himself! Sexytime guaranteed.

Fri December 14, 2007
The Loft
Atlanta GA

Looking for a little fun to start off the holiday season? Atlanta’s own Southern rockers, Blackberry Smoke and DJ Patrick Scott want to help you get into the holiday spirit. Add in a mechanical bull, PBR, hot Ms. Clauses and Bad Santas, and you have yourself a Holiday Ho-Down! Come drink and be merry bumpkin style at The Loft on Friday December 14th. Oh, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots.

Great music, mechanical bull, PBR and helping the kiddies! What more could you ask for in a holiday party?

Blackberry Smoke is a southern rock band hailing from Atlanta, GA. The band has headlined all over the U.S. and even opened for acts such as Blackfoot, 38 Special and Lynyrd Sknyrd. Their sound has been compared to many, and influences of bluegrass, gospel and rock and roll are evident in the band’s music. Some simply describe Blackberry Smoke’s sound as “balls out rock and roll.” With a strong following and a great live show, there is no doubt that you will be entertained.

Waxlax Center in Vero Beach adds new events!

The Waxlax Center has added a number of fun musicals and performances on the calendar for December and on into 2008! The Waxlax Center is located in Vero Beach, Florida on the Saint Edward's School South Campus. Vero Beach, on Florida's east coast, is located approximately 90 minutes southeast of Orlando and approximately 75 minutes north of West Palm Beach.

If you live in the area or plan to visit soon, make sure to put these events on your calendar:

Ruthless! The Musical
Fri.December 7, 2007 & Sat. December 8, 2007

Starring Emily Packard, Morgan Vosbikian, Aly Ryall, Brooke Willis, Callie Hughes, Jenny Harper, Marguerite Chastain, Kristen Greene, Lillian Balch and a "special surprise guest artist!" Eight year old Tina Denmark knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking and she will do anything to win the part in her school musical. Anything includes murdering the leading lady! This aggressively outrageous musical hit garnered rave reviews during its long Off Broadway run which saw Natalie Portman and Brittany Spears in the title role. A wonderful,good-for-all-ages,campy musical that sends up of every Broadway brat from Gypsy to The Bad Seed!

Livingston Taylor Live in Concert!
Sat. January 12, 2008

When it comes to musicians, some are known as great singers, others are great players, and Livingston Taylor is both. With more than a dozen albums and several hit singles to his name, the 30-year music veteran and kid brother of pop-folk superstar James Taylor, performs 80 to 100 shows a year and has toured with such major artists as Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffet, Fleetwood Mac, and JethroTull. In addition to touring, Taylor has been an artist-in-residence at Harvard and currently teaches stage performance at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In concert Livingston Taylor alternates between his guitar and piano in performances and has been called "the ultimate crowd pleaser," by Performing Songwriter Magazine; his effervescent charming persona endears him to audiences of all ages.

Flight of the Lawnchair Man
Fri February 29, 2008 & Sat. March 01, 2008

The Saint Edward’s School Theatre Department will be presenting "Flight of the Lawnchair Man" ; a 90 minute, nutty, modern pop/rock musical based on the true story of a dreamer who flew at 16,000 feet altitude in a lawnchair kept afloat by helium balloons, scaring 2 airliners, and the FAA. This is a kooky production filled with wonderful characters including Michelangelo, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart, and all of the Wal-Mart employees of Passaic, New Jersey!

Shakespeare Askew!
Fri. April 25, 2008 & Sat. April 26, 2008

The SES Theatre Department presents their final production of 2007-2008 season “Shakespeare Askew!” An Evening of an “all out-of-kilter” Bard featuring 2 one-act plays by Allison Williams: “Mmmbeth!” and “Drop Dead, Juliet!”

“Mmmbeth!” is a hilarious gender-bending take on the Scottish play! Everything goes wrong. The witches take over the storytelling, Queen Duncan would rather open a donut franchise than die, Lady M's a bloodthirsty June Cleaver, and the murderers are preoccupied with creating a commercial for their services. Premiered at the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival!
“DropDead, Juliet!” Allison Williams latest spoof on Shakespeare and SES's FLORIDA THESPIAN ONE ACT COMPETITION PIECE for 2007-2008. Juliet has had enough! Enough with the poison, enough with the stabbing, and especially enough with the dying! She wants a new story and she wants it now. More parts for girls! More romance! Less death! Romeo and Juliet will never be the same - or will it? Not everyone's so keen on the changes. And why is Romeo sneaking off with Rosaline?

Produced by Special Arrangement with Theatrefolk.

Dan Deacon's Ultimate Reality: Schwarzenegger inspired?

Dan Deacon w/ Ultimate Reality
Monday, January 07, 2008
Eyedrum
Atlanta, Georgia

We had to read the description twice before we believed it. Frankly, I'm still skeptical:

"Ultimate Reality is a collaborative performance by Baltimore's Dan Deacon and Jimmy Joe Roche. It combines an intense musical composition for electronics and drums with a psychedelic montage of Arnold Schwarzenegger films that is projected at a monumental scale. The live energy of the performance has allowed the piece to freely move between art and music venues and grant it a wide audience of appreciation. The touring group also includes Jeremy Hyman (from Ponytail) and Kevin O Meara (from Video Hippoes) on drums. "

As if having the mad scientist of electronic music in the house wasn't enough! People, a "psychedelic montage of Arnold Schwarzenegger!!!" Eyedrum really knows how to drum up some unique performers. This is surely not to be missed, and make sure your friends get tickets too because they won't believe you when you tell them about the show later.

Vincent Gallo's RRIICCEE on tour now

RRIICCEE
December 05, 2007
Eyedrum
Atlanta, GA

December 08, 2007
Rock and Roll Hotel
Washington, D.C.

Actor/producer/artist Vincent Gallo has a new project with Hole's Eric Erlandson, but I have no idea what it sounds like and, in some ways, neither does the band. Apparently RRIICCEE comes to town with no pre-written material and no plans to ever enter a recording studio. For all intents and purposes the music will all be composed live on stage, and every show will be different. It's avant garde, certainly, but don't call it "improv."

“Improvisation is not a good word for what we’re doing," says Gallo. "It’s more a gesture of composing and performing at the same time, always hoping to avoid musical cliché or jamming. We’ve chosen not to go into a studio in a traditional way like other bands have done in the past: to make recordings, cut them up, dub on them, fine tune and mix them, and then release them as an album, then later, go on tour, pantomiming those recordings over and over each night as a form of cabaret. Instead, for a long time now, we’ve chosen to remain open, to grow and change more naturally, and when we play live, the music is often created during the performance. If we choose to record a performance, the recording itself is only evidence of that creative moment. The purpose of recording then, is to listen back for enjoyment.”

Would you expect anything else from Mr. Gallo? Knowing his fondness for the pretentious it's no surprise that he doesn't subscribe to the conventions of the common musician...Whether this will work to his benefit is yet to be seen, but at the very least you are guaranteed a unique performance! It will be interesting to see what he comes up with and how his performance is received.

P.S. Check out Gallo in those new Belvedere vodka ad on TV as well. . .

Vince Neil Plays Hard Rock Cafe Atlanta's 15th Anniversary!

Motley Crue's Vince Neil
Friday November 16, 2007
Hard Rock's Velvet Underground
Atlanta, GA

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare your umlauts. Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil will be putting both the “hard” and the“rock” into Hard Rock Café’s 15th Anniversary Bash in Atlanta!

What better way to celebrate the club's 15 years in Atlanta than with a legendary artist whose career spans nearly twice as long?

Neil first joined The Crüe back 1981, and by the middle of the decade they were heralded as the biggest thing in rock. Since then, Neil has gone solo, rejoined the band, and gone solo again. Never one to hide from the limelight, Neil even made the jump into reality as a cast member on the first season of The Surreal Life.

Neil’s supporting lineup currently consists of Slaughter members Jeff Blando and Dana Strum, as well as drummer Zoltan Chaney. Don't you want to see someone named Zoltan live in person??

You can feel good about partying as well, as a portion of the proceeds from this event will go towards the Sklyar Neil Memorial Fund. Vince set up the fund in honor his daughter Sklyar who tragically lost the battle with cancer at the age of four. The fund endeavors to raise awareness and funding for the research and treatment of various children’s illnesses.
